Your typical middle class, middle aged, overweight, overworked, underhealthy Average Joe. Follow me as strive for a life of balance and convert to Veganism.
When I was in my early teens, I received a copy of Arnold's Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding and a York 2001 universal home gym. My goal was simple: Match Arnold's physique by 16.
Over 25 years later, I want to take that young man aside and show him how to have dedication, follow-through and motivation, instead of money and fancy business titles at the price of health and family.
In my late 30's, during a "Netflix and Chill" binge, I came across a documentary, Hungry for Change, that shifted my entire way of thinking. It was followed by highly recommended titles like,:
Fat Sick and Nearly Dead
Food Matters
Vegucated
Food Inc
Forks Over Knives
Cowspiracy
(list to continue)
I took up running, joined a gym and dropped (almost) all animal proteins from my diet. It was fantastic.
My initial year was fantastic, but Year 2 and Year 3 were a mess, with challenges in both personal and professional sides of my life, but by 2016 came a renewed effort.
January 1st, 2016 marks the first day of the rest of my life. Aspirations to become a plant-based athlete, to embrace my passion for foods as a career opportunity, and to improve the quality of my personal life. How's that for a Why?
Join me in my continuing journey. Regardless of what shape I'm in, I'll always be the Fat Guy. And you'll always be welcome to run along side me.
